![]() ![]() Team members may be from any engineering discipline, but suggested team members are those with an energy, industrial, computer, and chemical (process) engineering focus. The second assessment will provide an opportunity to evaluate the tool(s) and make improvements or changes before submitting the final project. The first assessment will be to provide the team with context related to the project. Team members are expected to attend at least two energy assessments. The submitted software tool will be in working form with clear instructions for use. The final deliverable will be a software tool (utilizing Excel, Word, or other programs) for each targeted energy area (e.g., lighting, compressed air, and others as applicable). The proposed calculations may need to be refined or expanded to include additional input variables. PennTAP will provide students with the calculations and descriptions of all the energy saving opportunities the team, however, will be required to understand and possibly augment the calculations. Targeted assessments will likely include lighting upgrades, compressed air systems, and boilers. The draft report would be available for discussion with the client at the end of the site visit. The tool would automatically process the data entered on site to calculate the energy saving opportunities and generate a draft report for the company. PennTAP’s goal is to tailor the tool for a tablet, such as a Microsoft Surface or an Apple iPad, that can be easily carried to record the data collected at the client site. The objective of this project is to develop a consolidated software tool to allow for the efficient creation of client reports. Common assessment areas include compressed air, lighting systems, HVAC, boilers, process ovens, and other manufacturing processes. ![]() Technical advisors on PennTAP’s Energy Team work with small to midsized manufacturers to provide no-cost facility assessments to improve energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions which result in reduced operating costs. Operated by Penn State Outreach, PennTAP offers technical assistance for Pennsylvania manufacturers to reduce pollution while decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving energy efficiency provides information system support and coordinates innovation and new product development services. The program focuses on helping smaller firms that normally do not have the in-house expertise or resources to resolve specific technology questions or needs. PennTAP helps Pennsylvania companies improve their competitiveness by providing technical assistance and information that addresses three main areas: Energy and Environment, Information Technology, and Innovation. Title: Real-time On-Site Energy Assessment Report Generation INFORMS is expanding its demographic options to match the survey options, so it is expected that future ethnicity reporting will be able to adopt the granularity of the survey.Learning Factory - Examples of Past Projects Note: At the time of this survey, membership data did not include granularity for Asian ethnicity, so for this reporting, East Asian or East Asian American and South Asian or South Asian American survey responses were combined with Asian responses from the membership database and are presented as a cumulative Asian or Asian American rate. The total response rate (survey plus existing self-reported data) is disclosed for each editorial board. Where present, data from the membership database was added to the survey results to reduce the data gap from nonrespondents. Following closure of the survey, the list of survey nonrespondents was reviewed against the existing demographic data in INFORMS’ membership database, which is self-reported by the individual through other interaction with INFORMS, such as join/renewal. For ethnicity, recipients were asked to select all that apply from the following options: Black or African American, East Asian or East Asian American, Hispanic or Latinx, Indigenous American, Middle Eastern, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, South Asian or South Asian American, White, Prefer not to answer, and Not listed. For gender, recipients were asked to select all that apply from the following options: Female, Gender expansive or nonbinary, Male, Prefer not to answer, and Not listed. Methodology Between July 9 and July 20, 2021, a two-question survey was sent to all members of INFORMS’ journal editorial boards requesting recipients to share the gender and ethnicity they identify as. Sharing this demographic data is one small way to help us work toward a more diverse and inclusive organization, starting with gaining better understanding of our current demographics.
